| The long-awaited development
of a new Health Centre is starting to move
ahead.
The County Council owns
the Croft Meadow care home site next to
the Health Centre and our development plans
for the Health Centre were deferred whilst
the County Council went through a process
to decide on the future of the home. Now
a new care home is to be built on the same
site.
Horsham and Chanctonbury
Primary Care Trust owns the Health Centre
site & now has two options for a new
building. One is to develop a stand-alone
Health Centre on the existing site. The
other is to build on the adjacent site when
the new care home is built, possibly linking
the two new buildings to make best use of
land. There are pros and cons of each which
must be explored before a decision is made.
The new Health Centre
will be more than twice the size of the
current building with extra modern facilities
and services. A Project Team chaired by
Dr Noren has started work on detailed requirements
including assessing all costs such as construction,
rent & new services. The Wilson Memorial
Trust proposes to finance and own the new
Health Centre building, leasing It back
to the PCT and GP's, and to fund additional
non-NHS services for the community.
There are many hoops to
jump through to get NHS approval for a building
project and if all goes according to plan
we could finally see a new Health Centre
open In 2006/2007.
The Primary Care Trust,
GP's & the Wilson Trust are actively
working together, talking to architects,
cost consultants & developers. Please
be reassured that as soon as we have a drawing
this will be shared with other community
groups & patients - hopefully not before
too long!
