In aid of raising funds
for my local Hospice I undertook a tandem
skydive on the 27th July, 2006, at Headcorn
Airfield, Maidstone.
On the day I was given a 10 minute
debrief on the correct jumping position. At 11 am
we took off and climbed 12,000 feet in about 10 minutes
and then it was time to go!!
The second we jumped out of the plane
we were travelling at an immense speed of
120mph; this was the freefall section -
we fell 6,000 feet in just 45 seconds.
When we reached the halfway point,
the parachute was deployed. This enabled us to gain
control of our movement, giving us the ability to
to alter our direction as we floated slowly through
the sky, aiming for the landing space below. After
the freefall, once the parachute was open, we reached
the ground in about 5 minutes.
The whole experience was incredible
and, given the opportunity, I would love
to relive it. Having accomplished my skydive
I was able to collect all the sponsor money
I had raised, which totalled £370,
which went directly to the hospice.
